Many Cardiff City fans are relieved that their manager has been sacked and are hoping for an experienced and exciting replacement for Erol Bulut, following a dreadful start to the Championship season, which has left the Bluebirds bottom of the league, having earned just one point from six matches, scoring only one goal while conceding a massive 13.
This was the season when some City bigwigs talked of at least a top-six finish and the possibility of automatic promotion. Whoops!
A more traditionally run club would immediately look for a quality replacement, but City have decided to put Omer Riza in temporary charge, which is worrying a different section of the 1927 FA Cup Winners’ fanbase.
This tired and suspicious bunch of fans wonder if Tan is actually happy with a stagnant club as he waits for his dream takeover offer from a Megarich USA hedge fund or a sports-washing nation-state.
Some say the owner’s formula is to sack the manager after a poor start to a season and then wait for a bit just in case the caretaker manages to do alright whilst minimising any financial outlay for a new manager.
Then, if the caretaker boss fails, they go on to hire a bang-average manager (Tan once hired Russell Slade from Leyton Orient, making comparisons to Arsene Wenger, which made many Swansea fans laugh their heads off and even more Cardiff fans shake their heads in disbelief).
This strategy sometimes results in a new manager bounce and a dull, lucky or close escape from relegation. Then, it’s not unusual for them to start the season poorly once more and sack the manager, and the cycle begins again.
Surely, Tan and his board can’t be this terrible at making a club with such huge potential a success. Why do they seem to be failing to run a football club whilst being successful in their businesses away from football?
Indeed, a man of Tan’s business success should get one of the best Championship football experts to consult him and help run the club if he wants success sooner rather than later.
Surely, he’s not too blind to see that the last few seasons of owning CCFC have been a massive failure unless he wants to keep the club stagnant in the Championship until he can find a buyer willing to pay the huge price he is reportedly looking to get.
Some fans are starting to choose their Saturdays spent away from the misery and current gloom of Cardiff City Stadium.
Most clubs would hire the best candidate within their budget ASAP rather than putting an inexperienced and somewhat unknown coach such as Omer Riza in charge.
Many fans think they should have given Ramsey the caretaker role to let him have a crack. He has his UEFA licence, heaps of experience, and is respected by most players and fans alike.
City fans will just have to wait and see who becomes the permanent manager. Let’s hope for their sake that it doesn’t lead to relegation to League One, waving at Welsh rivals Wrexham on the way down, who look capable of going the other way and gaining promotion to the Championship under their Hollywood owners, backed by experienced advisors and a proven lower-league manager.
